At the Auckland Xmas meeting today the Vintage register had a run showing off the Vintage and Classic karts and amongst the Karts that the Taranaki team had brought up to show off was the first of DPE's Demon chassis to be homlogated for a major event. This was the kart that Ray Hart raced at the 1983 CIK Asian Pacific Championships and to give an idea how big an event this was back in the day, the finishing order in the Final was 1st Lars Forsman Birel/Parilla (IAME factory driver) 2nd Mike Wilson Birel/Parilla (IAME factory driver - mutli World Champion) 3rd Ray Hart Demon/DAP (multi NZ champion) 4th Jorn Haase Kali/Parilla (Kali factory driver 1984 World champion) 5th Antonio Tamburini Kali/PCR (PCR factory driver went onto F3 and Super Tourers). Other drivers of note Terry Fullerton (Senna rated the greatest driver), Stefano Modena (DAP factory driver went to F1), Heinz-Harold Frentzen (went to F1 & DTM), John Pizarro (multi Australian champion), Drew Price (head of DPE). New Zealand drivers Kerry Moore (father of Lane Moore) & Greg Hollier other Australians of note Robert Hunter, Jon Baxter, Graham Powles, Howard Heath, Anthony Bartolo, Ross Zampatti & Pat Bennett. Also racing at the meeting in Juniors Mark Skaife & Mike Schumacher.
