Just for a change the weather dawned fine in the desert and us Kiwis
were baked under the scorching Middle Eastern sun. With temperatures
in excess of Reid Harker was the first of the Kiwis out in session one
of Junior Max. Reid performed well, easily lapping with the fastest in
his session. As he was in the first group out, his session of 36 karts
acted as motorised brooms, clearing all the dust off the track. This

Sunday 21/11/11
The Team representing New Zealand at the Rotax Max Challenge Finals in
Al Ain, Abu Dhabi touched down safely Saturday morning. Consisting of
Daniel Kinsman (Rotax Max), Reid Harker (Junior Max), Steven Currie
(Masters DD2) and Kane Taylor (DD2), they checked in to the track late
yesterday and as of 4pm today have collected the gear that they are to
use for the event.

Kartsport Mt. Wellington celebrated its 51st Anniversary in the weekend just gone with 90 karters turning up to race over 9 classes with visitors from as far away as Christchurch. Multiple New Zealand Champion, Hamish Cross turned up to run his two new charges; Spud and Rob Gibson of Suzuki Swift fame contested the highly competitive Rotax Light Class. Two Trophy races were also contested, the Neil Sheehan Trophy for Open and the Vera Keesing Memorial for Junior Yamaha.…

Even you lesser mortals have been on one, they take you slowly to the top of the tracks and the drop you at a ridiculous speed into an array of loops, turns and corkscrews. If you are lucky you may be presented with a photo of yourself pulling a funny face on one of the more intense parts of the track; but it is not the cheap thrills that you less than humble narrator chooses to use as a metaphor today.
