Karters forum for informed discussion on all things Karting

We are trialling the ability to have members start their own groups. But before you go racing off to create a new group please read on carefully, so that the Group section continues to work well.

The software that drives MyKart gives a Group creator a lot of administrative power, and gives the MyKart Administration very little. So we don't want to get to random and have people setting something up then letting it drop leaving the group to stagnate. So lets see what mature sensible groups we can foster

Before creating a group we want you to carefully consider the following.

1. Are you the obvious “owner” of this group? Really? Should you be setting up a “Top Gun Driver Training” group, for instance, if you’re not one of the ACADEMY Coaches? If you can't find a "Top Gun Driver Training" group then your first step should be to send a coach a MyKart Message and suggest he set one up himself.

2. Is there already a Group for your group? Look carefully: it's just going to be one big mess if we end up with the half a dozen groups almost the same

But if you're convinced that a similar group doesn't already exist, and that you're the natural person to create one then it's on to the next step.

3. Choose a name that will make finding your group as easy as possible. When you create a group that represents a club or track, please name it with the “common” name that everyone uses: no-one says “KartSport Mount Wellington”, we all just say “MT Welly”.

4. Notice the option to allow, or disallow, members to message all other members in the group. As this feature could easily be abused by one rogue member in the future we strongly recommend turning this option OFF.

6. Please use the moderation tools available to you in the spirit of the MyKart Guidelines. Group creators on MyKart have as much control of the content within their group as the Adminstrators of the site. This means you have the technical capability to close or delete discussions or posts within your group. However MyKarts policy is to encourage freedom of speech and the voicing of opinion. Disagreeing with someone is NOT reason enough to delete their posts! Please read the full MyKart Guidelines to see what we consider "acceptable" moderation, but essentially you should only be using moderation tools to delete swearing (words starting with F or C, basically) or bullying, (and hopefully you won't need to do that).

Other members please note that the MyKart administrators cannot stop a group creator from using their moderation tools, nor do we have a way of recovering information that is deleted by a group creator.

Finally, we consider the position of group administrator to be one of great responsibility, so please treat the members of your group with respect. Once you have created your group, one of the admin staff will have to approve it. This shouldn't take more than 24 hours in most cases.

Got this far? - you're ready to create a new group. One Last Thing.... Until this is proven all groups will need to be Authorised by MyKart Admin
