Karters forum for informed discussion on all things Karting
why do we need so many stewards on a club day. to many rules, we are a stater for motor sport, but seem to make it to hard and the costs are way to much,
what do you think

I find it offensive that you refer to us as 'stater for motor sport'. (sic) We are a legitimate sport in our own right and saying that we are a starter or feeder for other motorsport diminshes what we are and what we all spend weekends doing. Are you going to look at a professional race car career? Am I?
The short answer is no.
In saying that we are getting a little to heavy on the the stewarding at events.
If you have an idea to make karting cheaper we would all love to hear it. We all want to see the sport become more accessible to everyone but unfortunately there has to be rules otherwise you would instead complain about the guy that can afford all carbon gear, 10 different motors that are all set up for different tracks.
The price of gear and petrol are set by outside forces unfortunately.
Where would you reduce the costs? Race day fees? licencing fees? Aftermarket equipment? Government funding for gokarts? Safety equipment? How would YOU reduce costs? This is the issue that we as members must tackle.
accomodation is a big cost in travelling for karters. maybe clubs could start a list of people who are willing to billet karters for their club events. a lovely family let me stay with them when i travelled to taranaki. it made such a difference to my overall costs. and it was even better making new firends. we have 4 different families down here in ebop that are more than willing to put people up for the night. just a thought.
Billeting crossed my mind too, I wrote a rather sarcastic thread on Karting New Zealand's page (really a couple of members from KS South - not to be confused with KSNZ) regarding it at the nationals and I had a thought this morning regarding billeting and getting a Racket 120 class up and running in Auckland. I regularly stay with friends when I travel
and in return have friends stay with us when we have big meetings in Auckland, (even though I live 40mins away from the tracks.) It allows me to spend money in other areas, say repairing a Yamaha Kart after putting myself into a wall at EBOP.
I hope to approach some people after Mt. Wellington's AGM in May about getting the ball rolling for this class. It will definitely help bring costs down to social and less serious kart racers. We need to nurture grass roots somehow - elite karting is very healthy in New Zealand at the moment with the shifter series and the RMC. In fact at the next Committee meeting I will bring billeting up!
Yes that thread was all over the place but it is early in the morning so deal with it :D

Perhaps get it attached to this site. Check out the couch surfers site, could give us some ideas.

Aaron go strategic with your billeting. I like people like Teddy Bassick, I find he is great with a welding, frame straightening etc. Can be a bit heavy on the refreshment cabinet but well worth it
awesome, sounds great. how do we start? the billeting part that is. would we be able to include it in the next kartsport email out to all the members so people would know about the page?
Permalink Reply by Graeme Moore on April 13, 2011 at 6:28 New Section created where we can discuss travel billeting options for events around the country called: Travel
You find it as sub-tab under Discussions or Events HERE
Remember if you have a "Team" you can always start a Group which gives you ability to open access to that "Group" solely to your team or Club members. It effectively becomes a mini Mykart within the main site, but one you control and moderate.
