At last weekend round of the Rotax challenge all Karts were tested after the first race for chassis magnetism,
This is a rule that was put in place in 1998 and states (The bare chassis must be magnetic and of steel construction)
A small number of intrepid chassis were deemed by Kartsport NZ to have failed this rule when tested with a magnet,
On the evening there was a Kartsport hearing held and the decision was overturned,
After completion of the main heats 4 x Intrepid Karts were technical impounded, a security tag was fitted to the chassis pending further examination by Kartsport NZ,
To date Lascom Motorsport nor any competitor have not had any feedback from Kartsport NZ as to what further checks are required,
Lascom Motorsport is treating this episode very seriously and has taken the following actions
To seek clarification on ruling and testing,
Brian Waldmeyer from Lascom is flying to meet with Intrepid Italy and will be meet at Milan airport on Thursday morning by the owner of Intrepid Mirko squezoni to discus what action are to be taken,
At this stage this is not a safety issue
Intrepid karts are in use worldwide and have a strong reputation for quality and reliability,
This ruling only affects a small number of karts and I hope common sense will prevail to overcome this unfortunate situation in a timely manner,
Should any Intrepid owners have any concern please contact myself directly on 021 463 476 or keith@lascom.co.nz

Permalink Reply by Wayne Sproston on April 1, 2011 at 7:00 At the beginning of 2009 Intrepid entered into a 3-year homologation period with the International Federation. This is a very expensive and time-consuming process and allows the manufacturers to compete at the highest level internationally during the 3-year homologation period. At the end of that period the chassis is no longer eligible to run at these high level events unless they are re-homologated. This does not mean that the chassis are redundant, but are then ideally suited to use at club and recreational level.
this is a statment issued by intrepid Aus as read suitable for club and recreational level /////
Ah forgive me if im wrong but i thought this was to do with the demostration of bad behaviour
Karts being impounded was mentioned by Gary at the top and it was not Lascom Motorsport that had bad behaviour. Lascom Motorsport is a Limited Liability Company, therefore cannot behave in any way.
Lascom Motorsport and its Directors have my support during this hard time. The ignorant basing their opinions on hearsay will not help Karting as a sport and make a tough situation nearly unbearable.
Knowing Keith, Snow and Bryan personally (as well as many of their drivers) I know they would have all acted in good faith and were unlucky to have been the unwitting victims of somebody's miscommunicaion.
Sorry to derail the thread Gary, Snow and Lane Moore's alleged language are the issue at hand here and are a separate issue to chassis being magnetic or not.

Permalink Reply by Andrew Hall on April 2, 2011 at 19:42 I'm sticking my head out here as I wasn't there and don't know the whole story. However as an outsider looking in, this whole thing smacks of a set up. Kartsport personel came prepared to test chassis's with a magnet. That in it's self should raise eyebrows. If they knew there was a problem, real or imagined, surely Kartsport and the importer involved could have sorted any problems behind the scenes and advised karters of any outcome that may have effected them. Instead we have a public spectacle made of the whole event.
From a competitors point of view, you drive possibly hundreds of k's, spend a few hundred dollars on tyres , fuel ,parts and entry fees, only to be bush wacked by someone, who obviously seems to have a predetermined agenda, that they will carry out at this particular race meet. When it could of all been avoided, if I had been a driver on the day I too would have gone off my tree. It sounds like a competing chassis importer wanting to expand market share. There is certainly more to this than meets the eye I bet.
Sure swearing in public is not a good look, but it is this type of BS over a perceived problem that is driving licenced competitor numbers down. Stop the BS and get on with the racing.
Permalink Reply by Steven Gaskell on April 2, 2011 at 20:30 Intimating a rival chassis importer is involved for malicious reasons only serves to exacerbate the situation Andrew. It is worth pointing out anyone can protest any other kart for whatever reason they see fit. If Ferrari protest McLaren and McLaren are found to be illegal, it is not Ferrari's fault. I'd protest someone if I had good reason to think they were illegal, and I would have no problems with anyone who chooses to protest myself. But let me get my magnetic paint first ;)
On a more serious note, from what I understand Europe already had this whole issue, and it apparently revolves around an 09 homologated chassis that does not fit '10 homologation rules. I had the impression that once a chassis is homologated it is legal for the homologation period, regardless of future rule changes. In this case however, the 09 kart would not pass re-homologation for the next homologation period.
It is not for us to be judge, jury and executioner on 'bad behaviour'. Aaron said it's going to tribunal, that's where it should go and that is where action will or won't be taken. Nothing for us to saddle up the high horse about.

I dont normally get into these forums but I think its about time to set the record straight, I cant speak for any of the other chassis importers but I can inform you this test on the chassis was certainly a surprise to us, both as the Rotax Series promoter and as a chassis importer, be careful when you make comments, as you said you were not at the event.
The test from my knowledge was instigated by Kartsport officials and not from any chassis importer, the magnet was applied to not only Intrepid chassis, and you also need to understand not all Intrepid chassis were tagged for later testing... somehow people seem to read into this whole issue that It is someone else to lay blame on
Also Andrew, I don't think many people are stupid or nasty enough to do this in a community of 997 licence holders. jJhn Lennox said to me today that it was an unlucky fluke and had they known they would have approached Lascom beforehand so a solution could have been found prior to having to crucify 4 of our best karters and make a visiting Australian's experience rather unpleasant.
Steve, firstly, Snow has apologised to the officials who were on the receiving end of his language and he shouldn't have to apologise to the karting public. Frankly after that it is no longer their business. Secondly, the Officials look after there own and they do not to have their honour upheld on a web based Kangaroo Court. There are process in place to punish people who abuse our officials and they would have it well in hand. Lastly, if someone is offended by bad language, I suggest they find a sport where dick jokes do not form the basis of almost every comedy routine otherwise I will have to offer preemptive apologies before every meeting.
