What are the numbers like for 250 singles? Are they still run as their own class or are they lumped in with the twins?

250 singles can run in National or International classes. The superkart series all gearboxes are grouped together for starts but are recgonised as each class. The numbers are growing which is great now we have the Superkart drivers club going and run a series !

How do the running costs of road racing stack up against sprint racing?

To be honest your tyres will last alot longer on the Road as the track is alot more open and not stop start corners and also engines I found lasted alot more hours before pistons etc is needed than when sprint racing as you have to power off very slow corners on sprint. Also as long as you do not runtoo  lean then you will look after the engine as well as alot run very lean on sprint tracks.

What do you need to look for when looking for a superkart chassis? Any particular issues they seem to have? How do they age? would a mid 00 kart still be quick?

Yes a good condition one could be quick and Anderson is still the most common pick through the world ! But there is the likes of PVP,Stockman as well. You want one that has not been chopped and changed as they can be a can of worms !

Engine and setup is a big part but some try to drive on H/P and not driving them through the turns so setup and driving is of course the number one

Ross is right James. Superkarts are the same as sprint karts in the sense that you get what you pay for. Brand will often get down to personal preference but Anderson and PVP are as good as it gets. If you are genuinely interested in a Superkart rolling chassis, look at the classifieds on the British Superkart web site. There is often some very good, low milage and well priced gear for sale on there.
